Weird Construction of Rinspeed Dock+Go Concept Brought to Geneva
Besides conventional vehicles, Geneva Auto Show usually also performs some weird concepts. Rinspeed is one of the automakers that will come to Geneva next month bringing its latest whacky and weird concept. Some weird concepts from Rinspeed were so popular, including eXasis glass car and James Bond-esque underwater sQuba. This year, the Switzerland tuning design and automobile manufacturer will bring its new concept namely Dock+Go. Actually, the rumor about this concept has been heard since last year but it seems that the company does not want to bring it to local-scale auto shows – the Swiss company chooses Geneva Auto Show that will be officially opened next month.
Similar like the previous iChange Concept, which has been revealed in 2009, the new Rinspeed Dock+Go Concept feature a flexible design on its body with a unique three axle configuration. The third axle is called by the Swiss tuning and engineering firm as “Backpacks on Wheels”. These single-axle “packs” can give so many functions based on the needs. The unique thing is that the axle configurations can be left behind if they are not needed.
The Rinspeed Dock+Go Concept is based on Smart ForTwo. However, it is not just conventional Smart ForTwo but it is zero-emission ForTwo Electric Drive. With a full charged battery, the concept is able to bring all of the three axles for more than 75 miles of distance. The Swiss company said that this car is suitable for small-scale delivery businesses, including pizza delivery service. If the Rinspeed Dock-+Go will be used for longer distance, the backpack can be fitted with additional batteries or a compact range-extender. When the car is not in use and the pack with additional batteries or range-extended is docked, the pack can be utilized to provide electricity to the owner’s residence. Rinspeed also said that the Dock+Go is currently going through the process of Swiss patenting.
