2013 SsangYong Rexton facelifted

Over the last decade, one of Korea based automakers, SsangYong, has built up a small but loyal fans in some countries in Europe. One of their most popular cars on the Blue continent is the Rexton. This car appears as a mid-size SUV that was firstly introduced in 2001 and the Korean automaker has updated it in 2005, which was also the first facelift.

SsangYong is not preparing or planning to replace that popular SUV any time soon. However, the company seems to have different strategy to boost or keep its market. Recently, SsangYong has published a couple of sketches that give an idea of what to expect when the Rexton SUV is updated for a second time.

The computer sketches show a SsangYong Rexton SUV that has taken on a much more aggressive look than the current model we have seen on the streets. Oddly enough, the SUV does not use very many styling cues from other members of the SsangYong lineup that have redesigned recently.

The front grille of the SsangYong Rexton facelift is still inspired by German badge, Mercedes-Benz; but this time, it tries to be more modern and it conceitedly wears a chrome logo of the Korean automaker. The redesign of the Rexton is much less obvious out back. Two of the most noticeable aesthetic differences are a more sculpted rear bumper and slightly different taillamps.

The Korean automaker will likely give the Rexton SUV with roughly the same engines under its hood that power the smaller model, Korando. The entry-evel offeruing will be a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder e-XDi diesel engine that will be combined to either a manual or an automatic transmission. Customers who want to buy this SUV will be asked to choose whether they want power sent to two or all four wheels.

The third-generation SsangYong Rexton will be officially introduced on May 24, 2012 and it will reach showrooms in several countries in Europe two months later.

Lamborghini Urus SUV PL73 platform will be the lightest SUV Cars

When Lamborghini revealed the Lamborghini Urus SUV Concept at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show last month, it came with an announcement that the production version would arrive sometime in 2017. And now, Maurizio Reggiani, in an interview with Automotive News, has told that his company hopes the Urus SUV will become its top-selling model with an annual volume of 3,000, especially because of strong demand from the Chinese, United States, Russia, Europe and Middle East market. If compared with the 1,600 units Lamborghini sold last year, that sum is almost double.

Lamborghini Urus SUV PL73 platform

The upcoming Lamborghini Urus SUV will be built on the new PL73 platform belongs to Germany Volkswagen, which also will be applied for the next-generation Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg, and including the production version of new SUV from Bentley. The Italian supercar manufacturer also expects that their future SUV will weigh as much as 4400 pounds, which means that it will be 440 pounds lighter than any other names in its segment. And because the platform will be made from steel, Lamborghini will need to find and use innovative technology to hit the targeted weight. One of the solutions that might be used is the T-shaped, forged-carbon composite structure that extends from the central tunnel to the rear suspension hinging points.

Lamborghini Urus SUV Engine

Reggiani also confirmed that a twin-turbo gasoline-direct-injection V8 is a strong possibility because it has ability to “improve weight distribution without forcing an increase to the SUV’s wheelbase and overall length”. To maximize its performance, the engine under the hood will be mated to a permanent four-wheel drive system and most likely a dual-clutch gearbox.

Before the Lamborghini Urus officially launched to the market someday in 2017, there will be lots of details leaked. Automotive analysts believed that the Lamborghini Urus SUV will be able to boost the Italian brand to the top list.
