E20 – 2012 Lotus F1 Team’s Car
The Lotus F1 Team (formerly Lotus Renault GP) has officially announced that its 2012 F1 car will be name E20; a departure from the “R” marked chassis names of the Renault team. The E20 name is taken to commemorate the 20th F1 chassis designed and created at the team’s base in Enstone, which has become the headquartered of the team since 1992. The E20 will be driven by Romain Grosjean and a former F1 world champion, Kimi Raikkonen at the 2012 F1 competition. However, the E20 will be officially unveiled on the official website of the team on the February 5 2012.
According to the team’s officer, the naming of the chassis is to recognize the important role of Enstone for the team evolution. It is also to recognize the contribution of the facility and the personnel who always work hard each year to produce the very best car as possible. Eric Boullier, the boss of the team said that the team hopes that this is the case with the new E20 and they are always looking forward to reveal the car to the world and seeing it on the Formula 1 track for the first time.
The returning of the former F1 champion, Kimi Raikkonen is something positive, especially after two-day test in Valencia, Spain last week. Kimi is a tough driver not only because he is a former champion but also because of his experiences in the F1 track. Lotus F1 Team, which always said as underdog needs a good experienced driver like him. However, some parties doubted the capability of Kimi for this year’s race because he has retired for almost two years. They said that the decision taken by the Finland driver to return to F1 track is something that has to be appreciated, especially after Michael Schumacher did it last season.
