Caterham Launches 2012 F1 Car

Caterham has officially introduced and launched its car for the 2012 F1 competition. The name of the car would be the CT01. The car is the first for the team under the Caterham name was first seen some days ago after some copies and snapshots of the racecar have been captured for several days before. The team has officially released the images of the F1 car with the higher exhaust exits clearly visible at the rear side of the car. Mike Gascoyne, Caterham’s chief technical officer, said that the focus of the CT01 is on the aerodynamic sector and the new regulation of the F1 competition will ban the exhaust-blown diffuser. He also said that the new regulation would help his team on this year’s competition.

For the first time, the CT01 features KERS, with the Red Bull system being integrated, but the main focus is on the stepped nose. Mike Gascoyne also said that the interest was only because the Caterham was the first F1 car to be unveiled and that would be one solution he expects. He said that the team hopes other competitors will see it and adopt the system for the next competition.

With the improvement on the aerodynamic sector, Caterham hopes that this year they will able to reach better result than last year. They are optimistic that this car will be better than its predecessor because some elements have been improved, despite the focus is still on its aerodynamics. The Caterham’s CT01 will make the first test at Jerez circuit, Spain next month. There, we will able to see if the CT01 is much better than last year’s car and able to reach better position on each race. Two drivers who will ride this car are Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen.
