Each generation of the BMW 3-Series has been come in a station wagon since the iconic second-generation E30 model was firstly released in the 1980s. Recently, the German automaker introduced a new model of the 3-Series so it was only a matter of time before the Touring trim level bowed. The company has just unveiled a full set of details about the wagon and they have also confirmed that it will be brought and then sold in the United States.
From the B-pillars to the tip of the front bumper, the BMW 3-Series Touring is identical to its sedan model. Outback, the car features taillights with L-shaped and a sleek D-pillar, which are a couple of design cues commonly found on Touring-badged 3-Series in the past. The new 3-Series is given a power tailgate, which is the first for the model. The driver can easily open it by pushing a small button located inside the car or, it can also be operated with remote control.
By adding some extra cash, customers can ask a wagon with an option pack dubbed Comfort Access. It includes what BMW calls as Hands Free Opening Tailgate that allows the driver to open the tailgate by simply putting foot under the rear bumper.
The interior section of the 3-Series Touring is identical to that of the sedan model and it is equipped with a driver-oriented dash that has become the trademark of BMW vehicles for many decades. With the seats up, the Touring wagon offers largely 17.4 cubic feet of trunk space. The rear seats fold down in a 40/20/40 fashion if there is a need of extra space.
Unfortunately, BMW has not released any technical details of the US-spec 3-Series Touring but it has outlined the model that it will sell in its home country. The European-spec is offered with two diesel engines and a gasoline mill. The gas model, called the 328i brings a new 4-cylinder engine produces 245 HP and 258 pound-feet of torque. While the diesel model, called the 320d is given a 4-cylinder engine produces 184 HP and 280 pound-feet of torque.
