We also know how Italian automaker, Lamborghini has been able to earn most of the attention of the automotive enthusiasts with its Lamborghini Urus SUV at the 2012 Beijing International Auto Show this week, and it seems motivating Bentley to follow the same strategy. The automaker from the UK has announced to the public the powertrain of the Bentley EXP 9 F SUVand 60 special editions of the 2012 Mulsanne sedan.
Bentley EXP 9 F SUV Engine
However, Bentley does not make an official statement due to its plan to bring the SUV into production stage. The British auto giant only confirms that the upcoming Bentley EXP 9 F SUV will be powered by the current Continental lineup’s engines. We remember that the SUV concept was powered by a 600 BHP version of Bentley’s twin-turbo V12. The engine was mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that sends the power from the unit to all wheels. Now, an official announcement from the British company says that the EXP 9 F SUV will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 that is good for 500 BHP of power. We have to say that similar type of engine is also being used by Audi S7 and S8.
Another possible option that can be chosen by Bentley is a V6 plug-in hybrid unit. Unfortunately, there is no further information about how much the power can be produced by this engine by some analysts mentioned that big chance, the power will be similar to the motor powering Volkswagen’s Touareg. The hybrid engine is expected return an electric range of 30.5 km and reaches 60 mph from a standing start under 5 seconds. Some media reported that the official launch of the Bentley EXP 9 F SUVwould be done at the Paris Motor Show this year.

Bentley, a British car brand known worldwide because its ability in producing premium cars, now is considering making a surprise at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show this month. We never doubt Bentley’s ability in car manufacturing; all products they produced and launched to the market are always able to grab good success, but what about an SUV? Yes, maybe for some of you this report sounds quite strange or even ridiculous because the British car badge never has a lineup of such car. However, maybe they will make a start soon in Geneva because some media has captured the British company to showcase and even launch their first-ever SUV.
Based on the report, Bentley will provide up to three models of the SUV. Their big plan is producing and selling the first-ever SUV to about 3.500 to 5.000 units a year or about 25.000 units total in the lifecycle of the vehicle. But the Bentley SUV is not just about expanding sales figure but it is also about innovation. That statement based on the company’s plan to use a plug-in technology; not only hybrid propulsion system that also would be the first time for the British brand.
Auto enthusiasts must be patience because the appearance and the details of the Bentley’s first SUV can be found only when the cover of the Swiss auto expo is officially unwrapped. However, the decision taken by Bentley to produce a premium SUV is not the first thing because before, there are many premium car manufacturers did the same thing for example Porsche with Cayenne, Lamborghini that will bring an SUV concept to Beijing Auto Show this April and Maserati with Kubang that will be brought to Geneva.
