Less than a month, the 2012 Detroit Auto Show will be held. More and more automakers are announcing their plans to bring new cars in the show. Acura is one of the participants that will bring all-new breed to Detroit. The line-up will be brought by Acura include an all-new sports sedan, a redesign SUV crossover RDX and next generation of Acura NSX super car. Acura will also bring ILX concept, which is an all-new compact sports sedan planned for launch in spring 2012. ILX will come in three different powertrains, including gas-electric hybrid, which is the first-ever technology applied by Acura. For the 2013 RDX, Acura tries to offer better fuel economy.
According to Honda’s announcement, the Acura NSX would become an exotic super car. They said that they planned to put 3.5 or 3.7 liter VTEC V6 engine paired with twin electric motor that will be powered by lithium-ion batteries. The motor will also be given plug-in recharge system, which makes it brings big amount of torque. However, there was a rumor said that the NSX and ILX will be equipped with Dual Not 4WD Hybrid concept that firstly appeared in Tokyo Motor Show 2001. This technology is supported by V6 engine 3.5 liter that is designed to send power to rear wheels, while the in-wheel electric motor sends power to the front. This setting creates bigger horsepower, which is about 400 horsepower.
The Acura has announced that their focus is still the same that is customers who love luxurious sports cars. The NSX and ILX are good way for the Honda’s division to show that they have ability to produce and improve high quality cars. It is good to see how the appearance of the NSX, ILX and redesigned RDX. Let’s wait until the 2012 Detroit Auto Show is finally opened January, next year.
