Bimasakti UGM Joins Student Formula SAE Competition
Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta would join Student Formula SAE Competition in Aino City, Sizhuoka, Japan next September 2012. This is the second participation; in 2010, UGM students participated with a 322 cc formula car and failed to make success. For this second participation, UGM team would bring bigger engine capacity, which is 600cc from PT Federal Karyatama as one of the team sponsors.
Besides engine spec, the team would also improve the design and the performance of the car, so there will be chance to record a good result. Some improvements that are done by the Bimasakti team such as on the design of the frame and transmission system. The Dean of Faculty said that they hope that the participation will improve students’ knowledge and technique, so when they are home they could support automotive industry in Indonesia. He also said the engine that will be used for the formula car is coming from PT Federal Kayatama. The engine is 600 cc of capacity that usually puts on Honda CBR 600.
UGM or Bimasakti II team seems do not want to lose this second chance after they failed last year in the same event. With this second participation, the SAE Student formula team would try as well as possible to create a better car that will be competitive.
The Bimasakti team consists of 23 personnel. Each personnel has different role since in they are Indonesia or when in Japan next September. They would start to build the design this month in UGM. Some tests would be done before the formula car brought to Sizuoka. The team from UGM or Indonesia will be in competition with teams from other countries, such as Thailand, Japan, Australia, China, India, Korea Republic, Pakistan and many more. There are expectations from the public that the participation would trigger local automotive industry.
