At the Wörthersee meeting, Austria, a promising 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI has been disclosed as the latest apprentice-fettled project in a ten-year run pursued by the car maker. The concept boasts hybrid tech in its powertrain.
The 2018 Golf GTI First holds the title of being the first electrified vehicle to come with the GTI badge. The vehicle derives power from a 396bhp petrol powertrain, driving its front wheels, as well as a 48V 12kW electric motor, powering its rear wheels. These two systems are capable of working separately or together. Well, to put that another way, all-wheel, rear and front drive is available, depending on which powertrain the car driver selects. One can choose them via an application or via the vehicle’s infotainment system or even by means of Mirror Link.
The vehicle’s designers picked up blue shades to decorate its exterior, actually inspired by the Wörthersee Lake as well as blue sky. Notwithstanding the racier appearance of the vehicle’s exterior, the creators decided to keep its interior more restrained.
