2014 Formula 1 Rules and Regulations Explained

Formula 1 has been known as this prestigious and exclusive event that all auto enthusiasts always wait for. This annual event always takes place in exclusive places with exclusive participants. It is only logical if there are regulations to obey in fact, new rules are often designed and created after several conditions had happened. Despite that everyone has deep interest in this event, not everyone is familiar with the set of regulations, especially for the new 2014 Formula 1 rules set up by FIA. Of course, the 2014 formula 1 regulations are created for both the F1 drivers as well as the teams.

2014 f1 engine regulations

The 2014 Formula 1 rules and regulations explained always start from the cars. After all, they are the main attraction of the event. For engineers that are still developing features and models for the cars, there are some things that they should keep in mind. First of all, the V8 engine with 2.4 liter capacity – assisted by Kinetic Energy Recovery System – KERS – will no longer be used anymore. In 2014, all the rides will be running on V6 turbocharged engine with 1.6 liter capacity that has just newly developed. The ERS – Energy Recovery Systems – is new controlled by the engine management computer, not the driver anymore. The sad thing about the new rule is that the hybrid power units will not be as powerful as last year. The total output is ‘only’ 600 hp with total extra hp of 160 by 2 ERS systems to 33 seconds per lap. However, the torque will be higher, thanks to the combination of electric and also turbocharged engine.

All in all, the hybrid unit should consist of these six separated units that are working together as a whole:

  • Turbocharger – or TC
  • Energy battery or store
  • V6 engine with 1.6 liter capacity
  • Motor generator heat unit
  • Motor generator kinetic unit
  • Control electronic

If any team uses more than those six elements, they will be charged with penalty. Either they have to start from the pit lane or their places will be dropped five places from the starting grid. Moreover, the car is allowed to have 100 kg of fuel limit with the flow is limited to only 100 kg/ hour, if and only if the engine comes with 10.500 rpm. This should be interesting as teams now develop strategies to deal with such regulations.

2014 Formula 1 Rules – new penalty points

As the regulations for the car is being enhanced, there are also regulations for the drivers. In this 2014 event, the new penalty points will be charged, especially for any driving offenses. If a driver accumulates 12 penalty points, he will get a race ban, and he still gets another 5 penalty point afterward, considered as probation. It’s like having your own racing criminal record, where the points will be erased when the season has ended.

There are some other things that you may want to know about the new regulations. Things should be heating up right now and teams should develop new strategies to deal with these rules. Ready to get some actions?
