The new generation of trucks is the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. The New Chevrolet Silverado could provide up to 500 pounds or same with 226 kg compared with the current model. This not stop until here, GM expects to cut up to 1000 lbs (452 kg) of its trucks by 2020. The reduction should be achieved by moving away from traditional steel alloys for aluminum, steel, and magnesium.

The 2016 CAFE regulations state that U.S. automakers must achieve an average fuel economy of the fleet of 35.5 miles per gallon (6.7 liters per 100 km). The figure is alarming when one considers that light trucks, which account for half of U.S. car sales in the first 11 months of 2010 have an average of 30 miles per gallon (7.8 liters per 100 km).
